Trapeze and Papercast announce Cooperation Agreement in the field of e-paper displays for Dynamic Passenger Information

Papercast and Trapeze are treading a new path in providing innovative passenger information solutions with a cooperation in e-paper displays.

As part of the cooperation, Trapeze will seamlessly integrate Papercast’s e-paper display technology into their Operations Control System so that dispatchers can use both Trapeze displays and Papercast e-paper displays utilizing their existing Trapeze platform. The cooperation makes it possible to provide passenger information from a single source, which greatly simplifies operational processes.

The aim is to give public transport operators the opportunity to embrace the benefits of e-paper display technology with a seamless, cost-effective and fully integrated solution. Papercast’s forward-looking solar powered technology, which is characterized by ultra-low energy consumption, allows both companies to make a joint contribution to the sustainable use of resources in mobility.

Lean infrastructure, control via mobile radio
In contrast to conventional display systems, solar-powered e-paper displays have virtually no infrastructure requirements. Stops without power supply can easily and cost-effectively receive real-time passenger information via the public mobile 3G/4G network. With fast installation at existing stops, the displays can be easily managed and monitored using the content management platform.

“The significantly lower price in purchasing and simple installation are key benefits of this solution”, commented Peter Schneck, CEO of Trapeze Switzerland. “We are completing herewith our passenger information product portfolio. On top, a seamless integration in Trapeze’s control centre allows operators to work with these novel technologies without changing any of their operational processes.”

Wide range of applications
In addition to departure and incident information, content apps are used to show a wide range of information on the displays, such as route network, tariffs, local maps or advertising. The latest e-paper technology offers the customer excellent outdoor readability under different lighting conditions, with nighttime illumination also provided. Accessibility options, such as built-in screen reader and iBeacon, allow display content to be read to blind and visually impaired passengers on request.

“We are very pleased to expand our relationship with Trapeze with this cooperation and we look forward to helping their customers quickly and easily add our innovative e-paper display technology to their passenger information systems,” comments Robert Bicket, CEO at Papercast. “E-paper is the ideal technology for delivering a broad range of detailed content to bus stops that lack grid power and connectivity, and Papercast displays complement Trapeze solutions perfectly.”
